Preparing for Valentine's Day
So now let's get to the instructions for a perfect Valentine's Day
What you need:
You just need napkins. Best in pink or red.
And this is how you fold the heart napkins:
1. Place the napkin in front of you and open it once in front of you. Now the napkin is lying across in front of you.
2. Then fold the lower long end upwards until approx. 3-4cm of the lower side of the napkin is still visible.
3. Now fold the left side of the napkin up and then the right side too. This creates the tip of the heart at the bottom that points towards you.
4. Now turn the napkin over and fold in the top left corner first and also the corner next to it. So that a peak is created. You do the same with the other side of the heart.
5. Now you can turn the heart napkin over again and you're done!
To go with the napkins, we have a delicious recipe for a heart cake for you.
You need the following:
400g margarine
400g sugar
8 eggs
600g flour
4 tsp baking powder
200ml milk
1 organic lemon
Red food coloring (make sure it is really a good food coloring, otherwise your heart will lose its color afterwards)
Heart shaped cookie cutter
box shape
Tip: You can also take a round cake pan and cut out a heart shape.
Instructions for the Valentine's Day cake
1. For the Valentine's cake, first preheat the oven to 180° C top and bottom heat. And grease the baking pan with fat.
- For the hearts: For this you bake a red sponge cake. Put 200g margarine and 200g sugar in your mixing bowl and mix until you get a cream. Then add 4 eggs. Stir in each egg individually, this will make the cake batter nice and fluffy.
Then mix 300g flour with 2 teaspoons of baking powder in a smaller bowl. Add this mixture to the large mixing bowl with 100ml milk. Then rub the lemon peel and then squeeze the lemon. Finally add half of the lemon juice, the lemon zest and the red food coloring to the dough. - After you have mixed everything well, you can pour the dough into the loaf pan and bake on the middle rack for 55 minutes.
- After baking, let the cake stand in the pan for at least 10 minutes. Then cut the cake into slices about 2 cm thick. Now cut out the hearts from this using the heart cutter. The leftover cake can be used to make cake pops or similar treats. As soon as you have cut out the hearts, you can start with the second cake.
- You make the second dough exactly as in step 2, only without the food coloring.
- Then first fill the dough 1/3 into the loaf pan, the bottom should be well covered and about 1-2 cm high. Now put the cut out hearts in the dough. You have to make sure that they are really close behind each other. When all the hearts have been accommodated, you can put the remaining light dough into the mold. Then the cake goes into the oven for 45 to 50 minutes. You can use the chopstick test to ensure that your cake is actually cooked.
- Then leave the cake in the tin for about 10-15 minutes. Afterwards you can decorate it nicely with icing. Enjoy it!

For a really sweet Valentine's scavenger hunt, hide little clues the day before. For example, starting on the dessert, like: Hello my lover... look under your car seat.. The clue at your first hiding place has personal memories you had with him there and a clue to the next hiding place.
In each hiding place there is not only a clue to the next one, but also a wonderful memory that you had in connection with it. This is beyond personal and endearing and will sweep him off his feet!!

Valentine's Day traditions
Many people are confused about the origin of Valentine's Day, and that's understandable. This question is actually asked very frequently. Its origin dates back to the Romans, who celebrated this day to celebrate the passage of time and the beginning of spring. But the story of the day goes far beyond that. The first documented celebration of Valentine's Day took place back in the fourth century when two men named valentine were beheaded by Emperor Claudius II on February 14th. The Catholic Church may have established the day in honor of the two martyrs. Saint Valentine of Terni, an evangelist and secret matchmaker, was a great advocate of love and may have helped inspire the creation of what is now known as Valentine's Day.
The first Valentine's Day
The first written mention of Valentine's Day dates back to the third century and was originally celebrated on February 14th. The date came from the Roman Lupercalia festival, which took place in February. This festival marked the official beginning of spring. Century was associated with Romanticism when the medievalist Henry Ansgar Kelly wrote: “CS Chaucer was the first writer to associate this date with Romanticism.
In the second century AD, a pagan festival called Lupercalia was celebrated. The men stripped naked and sacrificed goats or dogs to celebrate fertility. On this holiday, men were encouraged to marry young women so that they would not have to serve as slaves. Today, Valentine's Day is associated with love and romance. However, there are some problems with this holiday. In fact, it is often associated with violence.
The origins of the festival are uncertain. There is no clear evidence that a Roman emperor was responsible for establishing the festival, but it was a Christian renaming of the ancient festival. While this event is the first mention of a martyr, many historians believe that the day was established by the ancient Romans to encourage romantic love relationships. However, it is possible that the name was also adopted by Christians.
The origin of the day dates back to the 14th century when the English began writing verses for their lovers. In the 14th century, this custom spread throughout Europe. In the XNUMXth century, Valentine's Day was celebrated by Christians, but the date was originally a day of fertility for the Romans. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, whose daughter was named Venus, was the patron goddess of fertility.
In the 1500s, Chaucer associated Saint Valentine with the concept of romantic love. This began the tradition of courtly love, a secret expression of love in a public setting. It spread throughout Europe, where the concept of courtly love eventually led to a thriving matchmaking lottery. And today, Valentine's Day is a day of romantic revival. However, its origins are not entirely certain.
The history of Valentine's Day is complex. The origins of this holiday are diverse. In some traditions it is a celebration of love. In some cultures it celebrates the virtue of being in love. It may not be the most romantic holiday, but it is a symbol of true love. It has been celebrated for centuries and is now widespread in over 30 countries. If you celebrate the virtue of love, make sure it's a happy Valentine's Day!
