The summer is the festival season. The income from this reaches record levels every year. One of the reasons for this is the increased price of tickets. This is mainly exploited by dubious providers who want to make money by offering cheap deals with fake tickets. The accommodation options on festival grounds are also changing. In addition to the trend towards more comfort, the focus is increasingly on a sustainable and frustration-free camping experience. In order to save on supplies on site, planning ahead is also crucial, as food prices have risen both in the supermarket and on the festival grounds.
Janina Rehbein, savings expert at myWorld International AG, knows what is important when buying tickets, what accommodation options are available and what to look out for when buying groceries.
What you can expect:
Berlin, May 17.07.2024, XNUMX In Germany, more than 350 Music festivals ranging from techno to rock to pop. New festivals are springing up every year, leading to a steady growth in revenues in the music industry. According to a forecast by PwC, revenues in Germany are expected to be around 2024 billion euros in 1,5 and will increase by a further 2025 million euros by 200. The financial success is not only achieved by the large number of new festivals, but also by the increasing entrance prices.
For example, tickets for the cult festival “Rock am Ring“ has become about 30 percent more expensive within a year. In order to save money, festival fans are increasingly turning to secondary marketplaces, although fraud and fake tickets are a risk. For those who only want to enjoy camping during open-air events once a year, there will be more opportunities to rent appropriate equipment in the future. Alternatively, they can follow the trend towards more comfort and Glamping accommodation To make the festival experience on site as frustration-free and cost-effective as possible, there are a few things to consider here too.
Will multi-day campground concerts soon only be suitable for penny pinchers and will visitor numbers fall in the near future? Expert Janina Rehbein disagrees and shows how an unforgettable festival experience is possible despite rising prices.
Every beginning is dubious? Beware of special ticket providers
Sought-after tickets for music festivals often sell out quickly. Many festival-goers then look for tickets on the secondary market. But scammers often lure customers with heavily reduced prices compared to the market value on dubious platforms. Rehbein advises: "Offers should always be compared with the original ticket price. Purchases should only be made through authorized or official resale platforms, as private sellers pose a higher risk of fraud." Checking the seller profile can help, ideally there should already be reviews or activity.
You should also be careful when paying. “To deter potential fraudsters, tickets should be handed over in person and payment should be made in cash”, warns Rehbein. If a meeting is not possible, secure payment methods with buyer protection such as PayPal can also be used. In addition, attention should be paid to features of real tickets such as holograms, barcodes and other correct details. In any case, suspicious offers should be reported to the platform operators and cases of fraud should be reported to the police, emphasizes the savings expert from myWorld International AG.
Glamping as a new trend for accommodation
For festival fans, spending the night at special campsites is an integral part of the festival, in all its facets. Many visitors are therefore not bothered if the ground becomes muddy due to persistent rain, as the tents are often disposed of after the concert experience lasting several days anyway. In order to act more sustainably in this respect, many organizers now cooperate with rental companies for camping equipment. The equipment can simply be returned to the rental company after the rental period has expired. The rental company then cleans and maintains tents, sleeping bags, etc. so that they can be rented out again.
For Festival visitors This has several advantages: In addition to the aspect of sustainability, the arrival and departure are also easier. No more heavy luggage that has to be dragged across the entire campsite. Depending on the provider and the festival, the Camping equipment can even be built in advance. Another trend that has been observed in recent years is the increasing number of Luxury accommodation at festivals.
For the so-called glamping sleeping places, bungalows, yurts or tipis are equipped with real furniture, beds, WiFi and even mini fridges. This offers visitors a much higher level of comfort. Rehbein explains: "For this luxury, a higher price usually has to be paid and an additional ticket purchased."
On-site care: Advance planning is crucial
Since 2021, food prices have risen steadily. This year, they have also become more expensive by a further 0,6 percent. These price increases also affect the festivals themselves. "This is because, in addition to rising food prices, the costs for personnel and energy are also increasing," explains Rehbein. The food on offer at music festivals is becoming more expensive, but also more varied: In addition to various street food options, more and more healthy and vegan alternatives such as smoothie bowls or salads are also being offered.
The savings expert advises: “Basic food supplies should be obtained from nearby supermarkets, but for food on the festival grounds you should first find out about the entire range on offer and compare prices and quantities. To keep track of everything, it is helpful to have a set budget.” When buying groceries, you can compare offers online on myWorld and generate cashback.
For safe Cooking at the tent Rehbein recommends a small gas cooker. "It is important to ensure adequate ventilation while cooking and only use the cooker outdoors. A water canister with a tap should be ready so that you can quickly wash your hands or put out a small fire." And if you are in a hurry? "Then you can also resort to so-called astronaut food, as it is filling and rich in nutrients," Janina Rehbein concludes her recommendations.
