Sustainability check for companies
Companies always reflect society and are able to adapt to changes. Expectations of companies have increased in various areas. According to a study by Deloitte (2022), 63 percent of consumers attach great importance to sustainability in their purchasing decisions. This includes not only environmental and Climate & Environmentquestions, but also aspects such as fair trade and social commitment.
Employees also have expectations of their employers, such as job security, fair pay, good social benefits, a positive working atmosphere and a balanced Work-Life Balance (Randstadt Trend Report “New Work” 2021).
What you can expect:
Independent rating
Companies have the opportunity to have their social and environmental performance assessed and certified by the non-profit and independent organization B Lab. Certification as a B Corp covers the areas of leadership, employees, society, environment and customers. Sanofi Consumer Healthcare in Germany, i.e. the area of over-the-counter medications from pharmacies, recently received this certificate. Dr. Theresa von Fugler, Managing Director, emphasizes:
"Health is a valuable personal asset. Our goal is to grow our business while promoting the health of people and our planet. The B Corp certification confirms that Sanofi Consumer Healthcare in Germany meets high standards in the areas of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency."
Concrete actions
Behind the somewhat abstract-sounding certification lies a multitude of concrete measures. These include supplying the German production and sales sites with 100 percent renewable energy and significantly reducing CO2 emissions. In volunteer activities, young people and senior citizens were supported by the German Red Cross by cooking together, doing crafts and supporting the food banks.
Employees have the option of 14 weeks of paid family leave in the first year after birth or adoption. Planned future improvements include sustainability training for all employees, waste reduction and promoting health prevention through knowledge transfer. According to Fugler, the certification offers the opportunity to reflect on the way of working in all areas and to make better decisions in the future.
