Instructions for macrame lantern
The material
- Cotton thread (I used a 3mm thread.)
– Glass approx. 400ml (I used an old sauce jar)
- Scissors
– a bust/comb
– Tape measure
In just XNUMX steps:
1. First, cut your yarn to the following lengths. Once at 90cm and 31 times at 60cm. It is best to attach your long thread to a board or the table. Your individual cords are then attached to this thread.
- Once you have your long thread attached, you can start the 31 threads with that Anchor knot to attach to it. You should make sure that the ends of the threads after this knot are approximately the same length. Once you have attached all the threads to the long string, place this 'chain' and the top of your glass and tie it in place with a simple double knot. The two hanging ribbons can easily be used in the further steps.
- Let's start with the knot. First of all, tie two cross knots one below the other along the entire thread.
4. Then tie a row of offset square knots. And then you place another row of square knots. If you're worried about messing up the ribbons, you can simply tuck the remaining threads into the glass so they're out of the way.
- Now take 8 threads of 2 square knots each and tie a diagonal row of rib knots on each side. This then consists of 3 rib knots. Then you knot the two rows that converge together.
- Last but not least, tie the threads hanging down from your rib knots with a square knot made of 8 threads. To do this, use 4 threads as passive threads and 2 on the outside as active threads.
- Finally, you can cut all the threads to one length. Then comb them carefully so that the threads fray nicely. And done!
As with many macrame projects, there are no limits to your imagination. Of course, you can also work with very different nodes. You are not bound to any requirements here.
You should also note that the thicker your thread is, the more space your knots will take up and you will have less space at the bottom. (I used a 3mm thread.)
Now you have made a really nice gift! Or your own beautiful macrame lantern, just because you value it!
In the dark season there is simply nothing cozier than warmth and light. If you liked making a macrame lantern yourself, you could make some in a different design. In different sizes, the lanterns also look nice next to each other. However, the macrame lights would also make a nice homemade gift Christmas 😉 It makes everyone’s heart warm, doesn’t it?
