The tying of one Macrame dream catcher is a great beginner project. A dream catcher is a cult object of the Ojibwe culture. It is said to improve sleep by letting the good dreams pass through the net and the bad ones get stuck in it. Not only can it be used wonderfully as decoration, but it can also be given as a gift. We'll tell you what you need and how it works.
The material:
Best suited for this dream catcher 3mm and 5mm thick cotton yarn in natural white.
Besides, you need one Metal ring with a diameter of 20cm. When it comes to size, it obviously depends on how big you want your dream catcher to be in the end.
As always, you also need as well as a Scissors, a tape measure and some tape.
Once you have everything together, you can get started:

Step 1:
The metal ring has a very slippery surface, which means that the yarn does not stick to it well. To prevent your knots from slipping later, first wrap the metal ring with the thin cotton thread. To do this, stick the beginning of the yarn to the ring with some adhesive tape and then wrap the entire ring from there. A little tip: only cut off the yarn after wrapping it. This will ensure that you have enough yarn for the entire ring. Finish this step with a simple knot. In the end, this thread is also responsible for hanging the dream catcher, so leave some thread left after tying the knot.
Step 2: Now we come to measuring the threads. You need: 10 threads that are approx. 3,5 - 4 m long. It depends on how much thread you want to have hanging down at the end.
Step 3: Now the threads are attached. This is done by one Anchor stitch or lark's head knot. To do this, take each thread twice and place it behind the ring from below. Then pull the ends of the thread through the resulting loop. Attach five threads to the left and threads to the right of your hanging thread.
Step 4: Now it can start. Now each thread is placed individually down the middle. Attach the thread to the bottom of the ring by making a loop at the bottom and pulling the end of the thread through. Always alternately take a thread from the left and then from the right. This creates an initial pattern.
Now your macrame dream catcher is almost finished 😉
Step 5:
Now you tie a square knot. To do this, divide the threads into groups of four. There are always two threads on the outside and two threads on the inside. You can see how to do the cross knot here watch again. Once you have finished tying your first row, leave out two threads on the right and left in the second row and tie another row of square knots with the remaining ones. Continue like this until you can only tie a central cross knot. This creates a triangular shape.
Step 6: The final row is tied with a double half stitch. To do this, take the thread on the far left and wrap it with the second thread from the left. Then you guide the second thread over the first from behind and pull it through the resulting loop. Then pull it over the first thread again and tighten it. You do this step up to the tip of the triangle and then a mirror-inverted row of the same knot from the right. This creates a surrounding final row.
Your dream catcher is ready!
